This spring and summer, Contempo – gallery for contemporary and current art – presents a curated selection of works in the courtyard, the new ByDay Café and the former stables of the military police barracks. Since 2018, founders Peter Koopmans and Mark Slegers have collaborated with Kazerne, bringing art into the hotel rooms and focusing on artists whose work retains its visual strength over time.
Currently on view are works by Sjef Voets and Nora Tholhuijsen. Voets is known for his layered paintings where abstraction and figuration intertwine, inviting the viewer to continuously rediscover meaning. Tholhuijsen explores the relationship between form, material and space through installations and objects that spark a sensory and intuitive way of seeing.
Together, their works highlight Contempo’s vision: art that resonates today and remains powerful tomorrow.
Contempo is a gallery for contemporary and current art. Based in Rotterdam, Peter Koopmans and Mark Slegers deliberately select a small number of artists to represent, whose work they expect will retain its visual power for a long time.
Since 2018, they have collaborated with Kazerne, primarily to bring art into the hotel rooms. Now, their works can also be found in ByDay and the Garden Room.
As with all art and design at Kazerne, these works are also for sale.
